As part of the SFC Gala 2024, Singapore Stories 2024 returned with the theme “Eternally Circular” — a powerful exploration of circularity as a core principle in design, production, and consumption. Designers were invited to embrace fashion’s perpetual cycles of regeneration, reuse, and resource optimization, all while celebrating the eternal recurrence of trends through a socially conscious lens.
This year’s runway spotlighted looks that were not only visually captivating and innovative, but also deeply rooted in ethics, sustainability, and cultural storytelling — marking a step forward in building a more resilient and environmentally conscious fashion future.

Joannalsm presents: Forge — A Vision Between Realms
At the heart of Joannalsm’s Singapore Stories 2024 showcase was “Forge”, a future-forward collection that reimagines the fashion landscape through the lens of the metaverse, while staying grounded in cultural heritage and sustainability.
Rooted in the rich cultural identity of Xiamen, known as a "Garden on Water," and the resilient, future-driven spirit of Singapore, the collection explores how physical and digital identities coexist and influence one another. Forge bridges past and future, heritage and technology, reality and virtuality — a vision where tradition is not lost but reinterpreted
Circularity and Social Impact
Aligned with the Eternally Circular ethos, Forge emphasizes:
The use of leftover materials, deadstock, and production waste to reduce environmental impact.
A partnership with Arth Sangini, an NGO in Indore, India, that trains and empowers women through skill development and fair wages. Their handcrafted beading work is integrated into the collection, celebrating craftsmanship and social empowerment.
Digital x Physical Integration
Incorporating digital prints, augmented reality elements, and tech-inspired accessories, Forge is crafted to resonate both in physical spaces and digital environments — inviting wearers to step into a hybrid narrative of fashion that is immersive, symbolic, and evolving.

Each moodboard is crafted to reflect a unique aspect of the collection, yet together they create a cohesive vision. These boards underscore themes of unity and identity, drawing inspiration from diverse landscapes to shape the metaverse world I inhabit.
The moodboards integrate the fusion of past and present, blending various experiences and cultures to form a narrative that defines my world. Expect to see elements of abstractism expressed in both fluid and structured forms, with vibrant pops of color set against darker bases. This contrast symbolizes the journey of exploration and embracing the unfamiliar.
The collection also illustrates step-by-step progress toward our goal. While the designs may intentionally appear incomplete, they reflect the ongoing journey of innovation and exploration. We may not reach our destination today, but eventually, we will forge a path that redefines the future.
Through Forge, Joannalsm showcases a deeply considered approach to the future of fashion — one where innovation, identity, heritage, and sustainability are interwoven in a constantly regenerating cycle.
